I can think of three reasons:

1. *They*, not we, have wasted countless
hours hashing the thing out. At least if
my attempts to standardize our style fail, they fail on the cheap.

2. It is freely downloadable in handy chm

3. It seems no worse than any other I've seen, nor worse, overall, than what we
would likely come up with ourselves.

Greg,

You quoted me out of context. I didn't say I write my own style guides from scratch (used to, haven't in years, though). What I said was that in matters of _style_ I prefer other, more consistent and authoritative, better edited sources than the MS manual. In matters of Windows terminology, I defer to MS, so that I'm consistent with everyone else. I think this best serves the reader.
