Become aware of your local job market, and when the time comes, start
taking shots at jobs you're not quite qualified for. The market is cheap
right now, so you may find somebody willing to hire a rookie at a low
price, with the expectation that you'd be expected to grow into the job.

That's how I got started. Aim high, and pull yourself up. Good luck.
