WRT consultants/anyone trying to take such threads offline, I would
prefer to see correspondence on-list, rather than having it hijacked
offlist ... the idea behind discussing things onlist is we all get to
learn from the discussion. By all means, hire who you want, but please
consider to leave the parts of the discussion that are relevant to
techwr-l on techwr-l.

To add to what has been said:

"Will, the conditional text enable quick rebranding?" Well, yes. But
it has to be set up first. And, conditional text is limited to about 6
conditions. FrameMaker variables will help, as well.

"How does conditional text affect frame -> Robohelp help creation?" It
won't. RoboHelp does not support FrameMaker's native format, nor does
it support FrameMaker's conditions. RoboHelp can import FrameMaker's
ASCII format, but RoboHelp is IMHO quite poorly suited to working with
FrameMaker content.

"Will, the setting of conditional text (and I assume that includes
graphics) enable me to write 'One' doc and repurpose it for the
differing information levels required for each part of the doc. set?"
It could. You need to review FrameMaker's capabilities against your
requirements. If there is significant overlap of content, maybe yes,
if there is not, maybe no. If you've never used FrameMaker before, you
should expect a learning curve with regards to organizing your
project, because you are jumping in at the deep end. Implemented
correctly, such a workflow can save you time, money, and effort while
speeding your turnaround and protecting against mistakes.

"Is FrameMaker the best tool for this?" It sounds like FrameMaker plus
WebWorks Publisher might be, but it depends. Also, checkout WebWorks
Publisher for Word, which brings conditional text (media types) to
Microsoft Word.
