Erica -

As much as I hate to not to have to point at Word for this problem, it is
the fault of Acrobat. When you ask Acrobat to print, just above the
"preview window" it asks three questions. Uncheck at least the top two. I
believe that is your problem.

Hope this is the easy solution to your problem.
