All,

I consider this a tools question... :-)
I've had a couple of disquieting opinions thrown at me, so I thought I'd
inquire before getting myself in too deep. Our office retained Windows 2000
until just recently, so my new PC is one of only two in the building. That
is, we don't have much experience with it.

Should I anticipate any problem if I de-frag (been using this system since
October), then use SuSE Linux's setup tool to create a bunch of partitions
-- some for Windows and some for a new Linux install?

I've done it many times in the past, but with on systems with previous
versions of Windows, but I've heard that XP is much more paranoid about
unexpected change.
What I don't need is for Win XP to wake up from the anesthetic and start
screaming about the amputation and demanding that I call Uncle Bill to beg
forgiveness (and permission to resume using my office PC...). I also don't
wish to waste a lot of time restoring backed up data and re-installing
software (and getting the IT guy ticked-off at me).

The obvious solution is to add a new hard drive, but we're a branch office,
and the paperwork takes forever.

Thoughts? Cautions?

Kevin
