How about:

"Gee, what a good idea! Some of the folks on the technical writing
list were discussing how difficult it is to see mistakes in your own
copy...so they trade drafts around with each other for suggestions,
noting typos, and so forth. I, for one, would find that very
helpful...are you folks game?"

By making it that *you* seek review and suggestions, *they* are less
likely to resist IMHO.
