Having just done this recently while "between positions," I would
suggest that before you start down the road of establishing things
like corporations you first do some soul-searching and ask yourself
whether your goal is to become self-employed over the longterm,
or just to do some contract work as a stop-gap while you pursue your
next direct position. It really does make a difference in the manner
in which you do your "startup."
