They made a mistake. They wanted a typist, but they had promoted
their last typist, the one they laid off in the last reorganization,
to be a tech writer instead of giving her a raise. So when they
brought you in, they mistakenly used the term "tech writer" for what
they thought they needed. It's right there in their secret, internal
job description: TECH WRITER - ENTERS DATA INTO WORD PROCESSING SYSTEM. MUST HAVE FOLLOWING SKILLS MS WORD MS EXCELL SCHECULES AND ATTENDS
MEETINGS AND MAKES REPORTS. GOOD SPELING A MUST. You were more
than they needed, and way too expensive. I'm making all this up.
Am I off the mark?

(My cynic hat is still on, but now it's a cap. In fact, it's ALL CAPS.)

Signing someone on to a year contract and five months later dropping
that person for a cheaper one is "unethical" in my opinion.
