Re: MS Word Template Creation
2) The documents include certain elements that are repeated in many
places, such as a protocol number. I'd like the author to enter the
protocol number on the first page and have it automatically populate the
rest of the document. Can this be done and if so, how?
I may not completely understand your question: are you asking about variables?
I use variables quite a bit in Word. Go to the Properties box and click on the Custom tab. There you can define just about any variable you want for your document. Close the box, return to your text and choose Insert>Field. From the boxes you can navigate to your custom variables and insert them as needed (hint: they're usually under Document Information). This way when the value of one of your variables, such as a protocol number, changes, you need only update it once. I use this method for release numbers, version numbers, and so forth. I hope this is actually what you were asking for. :)
