Makes sense now that you put in perspective. I do the same when I scan my personal images and when I work with video productions. I use the highest resolution and loss-free format within reason. I can always lower the quality later. The reliability of the mini-disk over anything tape is a given and if you are traveling, the change of it getting damaged is minimal.
