I've found that trackballs hurt my hand and wrist more than using mice
did, despite many claims to the opposite. I use a Logitech Mx700
wireless mouse, which lets me move easily from my desktop to a lap desk
if I need to do a lot of heavy mousing. The reach to my desk past the
keyboard drawer (which doesn't have a slide out pad) is more of a
problem than using the mouse itself.

The extra scroll buttons on the mouse are also handy. It's asymmetric,
though, and specifically designed for tight-handers (especially as it
has a significant thumb recess).
