What I did before I was a tech writer....

I was the assistant Manager at Hickory Farms.
I worked retail for a funky little department store.
Got married
I worked as a gopher for a construction company.
I worked at a paper mill picking up things...I loved the steel toed boots...NOT!
Volunteered at a hospital
Wrote for a newsletter on Women's Health issues
Got divorced
Worked as a Home Health Aide
Worked as a Nursing Assistant
Went back to school
Worked as an Editorial/Research Assistant in Grad School
I have spent the last 2.5 years as a technical writer, first at a internet hosting company, did a contract for Thomson Prometric and now as a full time technical writer for a NATO contractor working on NBC documentation, which I love!

Welcome to the list Jennifer.

Jennifer's post and Joe's reply made me want to do this, so bear with me. I think it would be interesting to give a quick list of what we have done over the years. I am 33 and have been in the field since October 2002. I have a B.S. from the University of Minnesota. But before going back to college, I was (NOTE: These are all after high school):

-Assistant Dairy and Produce Manager in MN -Assistant Produce Manager in MN -College student in MN -Route Driver for a soft drink distributor in MN -Framer (House Construction) in AZ -Car Salesman in AZ -Warehouse Manager in VA and CO -Bouncer in CO -Route Driver for a beer distributor in CO -Truck Frame Inspector in MN -Car Salesman in MT -Forklift Driver in MN -College student in MN -Tech Writer in MN and IL

Obviously in my younger days I let the wind take hold of me. And it looks like there might be a chance in '06 that I might be adding to this list that has not been updated since June of '03. Time will tell.
