Do you remember the book, The Perfect Storm.
Here's an excerpt from The Mississauga News article. It describes the hunt for the pilot of one USGC rescue boats involved in the storm. He's now a technical writer.

"Bob McIlvride stared at his computer screen in disbelief.
"An e-mail from someone he didn't know was asking him, more than 26 years after the fact, whether he was the same Bob McIlvride who was at the helm of a 44-ft. Coast Guard boat in Feb. 1978 when the worst blizzard of all time hit the Massachusetts coast."
