Do you remember the book, The Perfect Storm.And people say Technical Writers are dull people.... Pretty good article and it should be a pretty good book. I knew some Coast Guard members that were stationed at Kodiak Island, AK, and had friends who fished the Gulf of Alaska and crabbed the Bering Sea. Pretty serious water. The life expectancy is five minutes without a survival suit if you go in. (The survival suit gives you a couple of extra hours.) A couple are alive today because the CG plucked them off a sinking boat in the middle of a storm.
Here's an excerpt from The Mississauga News article. It describes the hunt for the pilot of one USGC rescue boats involved in the storm. He's now a technical writer.
