Um... because that's the messaging software they use in their enterprise?

Why does that seem like a curveball to you? I'm genuinely curious.

Though it certainly seems like it these days, not every company uses
Microsoft Outlook and Exchange as their e-mail and groupware platform.
Lotus Notes (client) plus Domino (server) provides all of the
capabilities of Outlook + Exchange (e-mail, personal information
management, group calendaring, etc.) plus quite a few capabilities
that Outlook alone doesn't provide, like team collaboration tools
(akin to what Microsoft provides with SharePoint Services.)

If you've ever used e-mail, group calendaring, maintained an address
book or a to-do list, participated in a discussion forum or used a
"teamroom" on SharePoint, you're already conceptually familiar with
what Lotus Notes does.
