Localization Question

For documentation that will be localized from the original American
English, which is the better choice?

The Basic Edit window appears.
The Basic Edit window displays.

Also, if you can tell me WHY one is better, that will help me understand
the issue. Thanks in advance.

Normally for US-only docs, I would use "appears."
