In my last job, I worked in an office so cramped that a cubicle would have been heaven, and I had five years worth of work facing me. Yet, the company, in its infinite wisdom, canceled my contract. (I was told while I was on vacation not to report back to work.) Ironically, the company allowed it's writing staff to work remotely.

It sure beats the heck of the last job, where
I lived ina sea of cubicles and would go for weeks at a time with NO
WORK, and when they finally decided that I was dead weight, they'd let
me go and hire me back in a few weeks when it looked like a contract
was on schedule again. But it rarely was :-(
