I might be able to help with this issue: "Spaces are randomly added between
paragraphs."

Word's paragraph styles designate an amount of space to be applied before
and after each paragraph (henceforth blatantly jargonized as "graf"). When
the "Space After" figure for one graf differs from the "Space Before" figure
for the subsequent graf, Word goes with the higher figure.

Also, as I think someone alluded to, there is a checkbox you can set to tell
Word not to put space between two grafs of the same style.

The combination of these two functions could give the appearance of
randomized graf spacing, but they are "as designed" and work quite well to
solve almost any spacing scenario if you set up your styles properly.

To find these options:

1) Open the Styles pane (Format> Styles and Formatting).
2) Click in a paragraph of interest.
3) Right-click the style name that appears at the top of the Styles pane.
4) Click: Modify.
5) Click the "Format" button and then click "Paragraph."
6) See the "Spacing" section.

Regards,
Jim
