Hi Lauren -

You covered two examples--glossary items and line numbering. By quoting just your glossary example I meant to indicate that I was just replying to that example.

If sorting the entries is a requirement, I'd look at doing it as a table (one row per item) and use table sort. I know you had a problem with a particular table and printer that you needed to work around at the time, but if at all possible I'd get the printer or PC problem fixed when there wasn't a deadline looming, and set the document up efficiently for the long term.

Most of the glossaries I've maintained have been shortish so it hasn't been a problem to keep the terms in order manually.

If I'd replied to your list numbering example I would have suggested 'skip numbering', but it sounds as though that doesn't always work reliably for you. I hear there are accepted workarounds for getting list numbering to work in Word--perhaps one of the Word gurus on techwr-l could chime in?

Yep, I guessed that the OP was talking about Word, I only mentioned Frame with respect to run-in heads. It's another way to implement definition lists such as glossaries. I wondered if there's something similar in Word.
