C+ Give your writers (and anybody else on your team) a weekly report.
For one thing, they'll appreciate being in the loop about what the rest of
your group is doing.
For another, they'll appreciate being in the loop about what surrounding
teams and projects are doing, what's slipping and sliding, what just became
screamingly important.
For another, they'll be tapping into the company gossip network, to whatever
extent is natural to them, so it helps to leaven the speculation and
innuendo with a more official summary that you've been getting via your own
For another, making a summary for a different group (other than your
immediate boss) concentrates the mind in different ways and highlights
different priorities and possible areas of concern, when seen from their
