We manage our images with a database, and use a naming convention. Each 
image name begins with an alpha character that identifies the image type 
(vector, raster, etc.). A five digit number is assigned by the computer. 
The initial image has an extension of .00.00 (we work on Macs). The 
first .00 identifies the revision level of the drawing, and is 
incremented whenever a change is made. The second .00 identifies the 
revision level of the callouts, and is incremented whenever a change is 
made. The database stores information about the image, such as the 
product(s) associated with it, revision levels and dates, publications 
in which it is used, the illustrator's name, title(s) or caption(s) 
associated with it, and any other important information. Images are 
associated to specific jobs so that a complete image list for any job 
can be generated, and new or revised images billed accordingly.
