I would select the paragraph (or a part thereof) and go to Format >
Paragraph.

There's a handy little Before spacing setting.

If this happened often, I'd set up the default style to have that spacing
information, so I didn't have to do it every time I had a table with text
after it.

Subject: Text around a table

OK, let's see if I can remember to tell all of you the important stuff
right off. I am working with Word 2003 and have a table that has one
line of text above it and one below it. The text above explains the
purpose of the chart and the text below explains a figure which is
placed with the text that follows the table. I apologize if this should
be common knowledge, but is there a way to make it so the text below the
table has a slight bit of white space preceeding it? I know that I can
go into the table properties and specify that there should be no text
wrapping on the table. However, when I do that, the table jumps to the
left (further out than my text) and I can't get it to move over. My
solution thus far (and before the beatings and tongue lashings begin, I
know this is not "right") has been to use hard returns to move the text
below the chart and give me that little bit of white space. All of you
that are better with Word than I am, can you please help me out?

Thanks,

Shannon
