For those of you who are going to visit the XML-conference http://x-pubs.com/ in Reading, UK you will be able to see the solution Chris Borokowski is describing; a solution developed on top of SharePoint 2007 Server. The solution - a complete end-to-end-single-source-publishing-and-collaboration solution - is called http://www.dita-exchange.com/

With this solution you will be able to:

- build and plan your publications in a web browser
- write re-usable topics and link these topics to your publication - also in a web browser (no XML-skills needed)
- publish the publications to HTML help, PDF, HTML, Word, PDA etc. etc simply by clicking a button (no conversions to/from complicated formats is needed because it's all based on XML)
- collaborate with SME's, Approvers, Reviewers etc. - controlled by build-in workflows
- starting at â39-63 per user per month.

Thanks, Ole Rom Andersen

Subject: Microsoft Sharepoint

I see Microsoft Word as a word processor, where Quark
Xpress is a layout program and FrameMaker is a
documentation authoring system. But I recognize the
power Office has. It is tightly integrated with the
most popular operating system on earth, is easy to use
for all but a fraction of office tasks, and has a
consistent interface that is intuitively understood by
those operating system users.

Microsoft Sharepoint is the new middleware from
Microsoft that puts Office content onto the web. I
have a feeling that it will be important for all
technical writers, content managers, web editors and
even web developers.
