I want to use checkbox on an MS Word template without using any of the following:
the Forms feature; the protect/unprotect document option that is listed in the Tools
menu; the Forms tool bar padlock; adding a macro.

So far, I have done this:
1. Use the forms tool bar: View > Tool bar > Forms.
2. Click the checkbox tool and added it to the document.

When I try using the checkbox form field (from the Forms tool bar), I must
double-click the checkbox ,and then select from the pop-up window the default
value as checked or unchecked.

I'm told that the trick is for the user to check the box is to hover the cursor
directly over it. I have tried this, but I don't get an X'd checkbox right away, first I get a
pop-up window, "Checkbox Form Field Options."

I want to the user to be able to select the checkbox without going into the
Checkbox Form Field Options; instead, I want the user to simply single-click the
checkbox.

Can this be done?

I apologize if this question has been asked before.
