No. You do as management wants and document from the get go. Then, when
further analysis reveals that your preliminary documentation doesn't match
the process and management wonders why you can't document a "simple"
process, you tell them that there are more complexities to the process than
what they understand. Then, when management says to document the
"high-level" process and sufficient analysis has occurred, you can document
the process accurately and later go home and find a good third-person
shooter game to play and vent your frustrations.

I have tried to appease formal methodology-resistant management somewhat by
preparing preliminary outlines and workflows of processes in addition to
preparing my notes from analysis just so that I am working on something when
the manager "checks in" on me.
