I don't think it's wrong at all for you to ask for what you see to be
fair. First, wait for the offer. If it's lower than you'd like, cite
the research and your past contracts, couple that with your experience
and past rates, explain what you would consider fair for the job, and
see what happens. Worst they can say is "no". At that point (and even
at this point you're at now) the action is on you whether you accept,
counter, or walk away. But be prepared in all cases; be prepared to
take a pay cut if this job is one you really want, be prepared to see
the offer leave the table if they don't like the counter proposal, and
be prepared to walk away if they don't budge and you won't work for
that rate they quoted you.
