I'm not convinced technical professionals as such will ever succeed
with a union, especially considering how few employers realize the
value of the job and how many are inclined to believe that technical
communicators are interchangeable like programmers. As I recall one of
the purposes of the STC was to convince the world at large that
technical communicators are strategic members of the workforce and
deserve their own professional and academic merit as such.
