I went to it some years ago in Palo Alto. I thought it was a day well spent. As
I remember, there was still a lot of material that wasn't in the books (and the
books are part of the course package, and those in themselves are almost
worth the trip); apart from the fact that Tufte is an amazing presenter. I had
food for thought for many weeks afterwards and even now his books take a
prominent place on bookshelf.
YMMV of course, but I would certainyl recommend it 'even' for non-graphic
artists.
