Dan, I've been using Windows Desktop Search (as opposed to the
centipede-speed Windows Search that's pre-installed on your machine) for
the past couple of years. It works very well for us. There's also a
fairly potent and very fast search capacity in xplorer2 desktop, which
is a wonderful file management utility that beats the stuffing out of
Windows Explorer. It's a small investment for business use, but well
worth the investment -- saves us tons of time visiting all the farflung
spots on our network that we regularly access in the course of a day's
work.

I'll let others speak to X1, but I'm very happy with these two
utilities.

Jim

We've been using Copernic for a while now. Google Desktop has security
and privacy issues, and Windows Search is kind of slow. Copernic has
worked well for us in various situations -- Word text embedded in Visio
documents, folders that were reorganized by documentation project
changes, etc.

When we originally downloaded Copernic, it was free for commercial use,
but now it requires a license. I've heard a little about X1 Professional
Client, and I was wondering if anyone had enough experience to compare
the two. The cost is nearly identical; the only question is which would
do a better job searching our corporate documents, considering both
speed and security.

Any thoughts?
