Information Design in Online Multi-Ethnic Contexts
Edited by Filipp Sapienza (White Mouse Solutions)
Increased use of global communication networks by multi-ethnic
users involves perspectives and practices that introduce new
questions for information designers, usability practitioners,
content managers, developers, information architects, and
technical communicators. These questions may include:
How do multi-ethnic users do electronic communication
differently from those who see themselves as belonging
primarily to one culture?
What kinds of electronic media forms, information design
problems, and usability issues emerge when developing content
for multi-ethnic users?
What does a website, mobile environment, information
architecture, or networked application for a multi-ethnic
group look like?
Which methods are best suited for analyzing these groups
and the media forms?
How does the technological infrastructure of online media
guide or constrain multi-ethnic use?
How do technology standards, government restrictions, and
business practices affect the creation and use of media for
these groups?
How are information architecture, content management, and/or
usability practices changed when working with such groups?
How can the teaching and training of information designers
(including web designers, usability practitioners, information
architects, and/or content managers) be modified to address the
increasingly multi-ethnic nature of online interactions?
The editor of Information Design in Online Multi-Ethnic
Contexts wishes to address these questions, and others,
through chapters that explore the different aspects of
multi-ethnic online communication. The editor is interested
in a range of methodological approaches that may include (but
are not limited to): case studies in academia or business;
best practices; empirical studies; usability studies; analyses
of content management and/or information architecture processes;
writing practices online; and pedagogical practices. The editor
is especially interested in topics that concern media and/or
users who see themselves as members of more than one culture
(such as immigrants, trans-nationals, and bi- or tri-cultural
people).
Submission Procedure
Prospective authors are invited to submit chapter proposals
of 200-500 words on or before August 15, 2008. In their
