My original query was for a non-floppy method that would resemble the
floppy method as closely as possible. C'est tous. And I'm pleased that
we eventually found such a method.

Regulations are part of the reason for telling them exactly how to do
it. However, there are situations in non-regulated environments where
the user *must* back up files in a very specific way, even though there
are other ways to back them up. You can probably think of examples on
your own -- let me know if you need any.

21CFRPart11 is a terrific list, but not relevant to this question. Part
11 doesn't apply to this non-signature scenario.
