Excellent news for those of us outside of US.
There is no event in Europe coming even close to the scale and scope
of the STC Summit.
I attended the conference this year and while the whole trip was a bit
costly, I very much enjoyed the experience.
For those who can, I would very much recommend attending this
conference in person, it's a great chance to get out there and share
your experiences with fellow writers.
What's more if you actually go, this means you can dedicate those few
days worth of sessions to learning rather than fulfilling everyday
work commitments.
I think the main fear on STC's side was a drop in attendance, but even
if that were the case, it will more likely be due to bad economy and
tight budgets. The recording will surely be a great asset to those who
won't be able to attend in person.
In my case traveling 10000 miles was not only expensive but also quite
a bit of an ordeal (fortunately jet lag didn't kick in until we were
back), so recorded sessions are a great option for me.
Flying and traveling in general is not likely to get any cheaper or
greener any time soon, so while to some it might seem an odd concept
for speakers to present to an empty auditorium and broadcast via
Internet, it seems we have to embrace it if we want to stay green and
cheap.
