I wonder how long a lapse would be equivalent to starting from scratch.

My TS-compartmentalized was mid-1970s, back when the Russians were the
bad guys and... oh, wait, they're taking up that mantle again...

Let's see, there was a 5-year period after I departed the service in
which I was not allowed to talk about what I'd been doing, so the TS
would have lapsed some time in there, I guess... which gets me to
1982-ish. So only a 26-to-30-year span for the investigators to catch
up. Hmm. That's longer than many first-time applicants have been
_alive_!

I guess I'm no better a candidate for clearance than the next kid.
