It ain't only Canada Suzette. It sucks, but "age discrimination" is alive
and here in the US too.

I'm 60 (although I don't act a day over 25) with 0ver 30 years writing for a
living and there is no doubt that my chances of getting a regular job are
zilch. However, my company (me) is doing quite well, because my sales pitch
was to senior management, not traditional hiring authorities. Senior
managers tend to look at vendors different than potential employees (and
they're closer to our age).

Contract work is not for everyone though. If you're afraid of not having a
weekly paycheck, sick leave, or any of the other "regular job" benefits,
prepare for regular anxiety attacks. If you like a challenge and drink
heavily (okay, forget that last part), you will find contracting can be a
lot of fun. And, you won't have to worry about firing yourself when you get
to "old."
