A smart phone might be an option -- depending upon the length and amount of
writing you want to do. I blog and use a smart phone, although not necessarily
at the same time. The smart phone keyboards or handwriting recognition tends to
be better for smaller posts (think Twitter) but not good for longer ones. (I am
using a Motorola Ming A1200 with a stylus on a touch screen.)

A few years ago, I had a PDA with a keyboard and used to write blog posts and do
minor site updates from the wifi connection with limited success. The process
was frustrating because typing and moving between applications was slower than
what I was used to (not to mention thumb cramps).

Maybe a netbook would be an option? However, I wouldn't get one with a contract.
Why spend $99 and be obligated for two years when you can get a netbook with 3G
connectivity for ~$250-300? You would only be limited to whichever network was
supported by the netbook's 3G card.

Good luck!
