Another option for you, in case this happens again, might be to use a
virtual machine (VM) and install the "new" RH, or the "old" Word, on that
VM, and do your conversion there. Then you can copy the converted files to
your work laptop. This approach has the advantage of not messing up your
current application settings on your work laptop.
The "acquisition" company you speak of probably has the virtual machines as
well as licenses available for the software versions you need.
