Sorry if this point seems too obvious, but in the interest of
minimalist list comments... 8:)
While this thread has been interesting and informative, as usual,
there is another aspect which has not been mentioned:
For clarity, be sure to select a font which does not make a numeral
"1" indistinguishable from a capital letter "I" or a lower case "l" in
your documentation.
That way, if the customer still insists upon using the numerals for
single-digit numbers, the users of the docs won't be at quite the
disadvantage they might have been otherwise.
