Re: Changing Normal.dot in Word

One really useful purpose for modifying Normal.dot, besides sharing
boilerplate text, is to share the same keyboard macros with all users.

I like the idea of a network login script that automatically writes a fresh
copy of Normal.dot daily to the following location:

%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\

Even if the user deletes Normal.dot, it gets overwritten every time they log
in.

In Word 2007, file locations are managed here:
MS Office button > Word options > Advanced
(scroll to bottom of dialog)
File locations


For our purposes, I instead created a shortcut to the network folder where
our templates are stored in that same %USERPROFILE% directory. Word resolves
the shortcut to the folder location when I click File > New, avoiding the
whole notion of workgroup templates.
