For a 3 step procedure, I would agree with you.

If we're talking a longer procedures - say 20 steps - I would say the numbers are necessary.

I have procedures for setting up a new product in the system. In step 1, you set up a record in Menu Option A but it isn't until step 7 that you fill something out and have to set the field to the value that was set up in step 1. It's easier to say, "Set the "whatever" field to the code you set up in step 1."

I don't know if it can be done but I would urge your colleague not to do it. It's bone-ugly and the numbers aren't necessary. The checkboxes are sufficient. <facetious>The only thing that might redeem it would be to make the checkboxes flash.</facetious>
