Other/not applicable: I'm a self-employed consultant.

Trends I've seen (not all apply to any one situation):
* shrinking: doing more with fewer people
* shifting: tech writers/tech comm professional groups either taking
on a wider variety of responsibility or shifting focus from
traditional technical writing practices to something new or a hybrid
approach to tech comm based on new needs
* advancement: employing smarter tools to enable capable writers to be
more productive
* devolution: abandoning infrastructure and practice
advancements/improvements for more rudimentary tools and processes to
suit a lesser qualified pool of writers, either contract or permanent
to "just get the job done"
