Ditto on what Bill Swallow said. I too am a contractor. Although one of my
major contracts is pulling up stakes and moving the company back to Europe
(where it is headquartered), the gap has been temporarily filled with a
contract to a state organization. So, in a sense, it's a wash. But in the
last few years, I have seen traditional technical writing quickly move to a
hybrid that includes print and online, with online moving from traditional
help to social media, wikis, twitter, and so on. Traditional technical
writers must adapt of be left behind. The problem is that many companies
still think online is a searchable PDF. If you work for one of those
companies, then your task is compounded with helping them move forward as
you also move forward.
