Wow -- who knew that there'd be so much to say about this -- and much of it even on-topic and educational (for us reluctant social media participants) :-)?!

So, a bit of a wrap-up here, and while I'll certainly keep reading the discussion with interest, I'm moving on in the doc now.

So yes, if you are the followER, you're "friending" someone. And so if you're the followEE, you've been "friended". But "friended" is certainly past tense, so how would you say that someone is looking to be friended?

Well yes, Tony's suggestion is certainly on the money (and made me laugh!), but as he assumed, I do need something positive, not derogatory. ! I really like Margaret's suggestion of "cultivating", and will likely use that, especially as it gets to intent and isn't so tied to the particular technology/platform.

And very interesting about the verbs for Twitter vs. Facebook (follow vs. Like/Friend) -- and quite relevant for me because the same (SaaS, not smartphone) application that has Facebook functionality integrated in also has Twitter integration. So that likely explains the bit of a muddle in the terminology that the application uses.

Thanks for the lively discussion!
