"only made $20,000 more"?! How is a manger making only that kind of margin over and above what non-managerial employees earn supposed to live? What kind of world do we live in?! One can't even buy a new, low-end Porsche with only an additional $20K. Please tell me that this poor soul is at least being offered a company BMW. If I knew that managers in my organization were earning only an additional $20K, I'd have no choice but to give up bathing and come to work dressed in a sackcloth and ashes. And if the CEO wasn't earning at least 1000% more annually than the average employee, I have to immolate myself in protest.

I don't know if this is even a valid question, but this scenario described may possibly turn into reality. Is there an expected (or
unsaid/unwritten) minimum salary gap between a tech pubs manager-editor and his/her senior writing staff? If the manager only made $20,000 more than the highest paid writer, could that be considered unacceptable? Unacceptable to the manager-to-be, that is.
