Easy answer: they do it with a single hotkey. The default for PureText is to paste the clipboard contents into the current document as plain text (and make a sound, which you can turn off) when you press Windows+V rather than Ctrl+V. No mousing to click a QAT icon or to pull down the Paste Special menu. No Alt key sequence to invoke a command. No post-process to remove the formatting after the fact. Just a hotkey and you're done almost before you started. Do it a few dozen times and you'll see the value. And they do it in *any* application--Excel, FrameMaker, Flare, RoboHelp, Outlook--not just Word, where you do admittedly have some alternatives.
And in the case of PureText, you can't argue with the price of the software or the cost of ownership. Spend 15 seconds downloading it and another 10 seconds installing it to see if you appreciate it. If not, just delete it and all it has cost you is 2 or 3 minutes of your life--less time than brewing a K-cup
