You can use the search and replace to convert styles. I don't know if you can set up a map, but you can change all instances of a style to another within a document.
CTRL+H
Click More > Format > Style
Select style to Find
Select style to Replace with
Click Replace (to test)
Click Replace All

I suppose you could record a macro for multiple styles.

Hi, guys...

I'm at a new contract with a department that has never really had a writer, only a bunch of developers with a tenuous hold on the English language. You can therefore imagine the state of the documentation.

What I'm looking for is the next step above the style organizer. What I'd like to do is have something that would allow me to map each individual old style to a new style and use it to replace the style. I used to do that with FM through a plugin (I think it was cud's template mapper), but I don't know if that kind of capability even exists for Word.

BTW...under separate post, I'm going to be asking about how to institute Table Numbering

Jeezz...there's so much I've forgotten in Word not having used it seriously for almost 10 years :-)
