It's always worked to Microsoft's interests to ignore all competitors. Despite long-term membership in the W3C, they dragged their feet for years on adopting common standards. Having your browser as the preferred browser under your operating system allows a strong tendency toward arrogance. True competition might have produced more urgency in solving their customers'--our--problems.
