Um......... didn't the bulk of our language come from Latin?
Much of it via French/Norman, mind you, but I've long thought
of English as the illegitimate cousin to the Romance languages.
The cousin with hybrid vigor, of course. :-)

Anyway, I speculate that "curate" will become another victim of the
language wars. It'll be spread way thinner than could possibly
be justified, and when its fabric is in tatters, it'll be discarded,
as being of no more use to anyone, including those who formerly
used it properly.

"The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary." -J. Nicoll

This all reminds me of someone's question in another thread
whether Canada had some official body similar to the Académie Française
to lay down the law about French usage. No, Canada doesn't.
But Québec, a province (that's a thing roughly equivalent to a State) within
Canada, does have the Office de la langue Française which has some
of that function. So, if you are translating documentation, to sell product
into French Canada, that's the crowd you're looking to please.
Good luck getting the new meanings of "curate" paste them. :-)
