What is the benefit of providing the slides to the learners?

If the slides can stand on their own, they are called speaker's notes and
shouldn't be projected on the wall to begin with. Slides provide imagery to
reinforce the speaker's message and there are very few reasons to share a
copy of them with the audience.

The students are missing the slides because they are conditioned to expect
a copy of the slides. They want them because they get them at the end of
every other powerpoint lecture they sit through -- not because there is
some actual value to having them. Leave them out and move on.
