Hi, all.

We are setting up a filename standard that will use abbreviations for
languages. We thought that we would use 2-letter abbreviations, such as
EN for English and FR for French, but then someone pointed out that
there are regional variations of languages, like British English and
American English, Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese, and so on.

Is there any standard set of abbreviations for languages, used by
translation houses, or ISO, or anything like that?

A quick survey of our communcations with our translation houses did not
turn up anything consistent, but that doesn't mean there's not
something out there that we might find useful.

Thanks for all suggestions.
