The problem with "variable" is that it doesn't reflect the fact that the settings are being changed automatically.
No, it's not the settings that are being changed automatically. The user changes the min & max settings. What is changing is the number of active nodes. The "system" changes the number of active nodes, within the min-max range, based on system conditions.
So it seems that "variable" is accurate.
